Tourmaline is a boron silicate mineral that forms in granite pegmatites and metamorphic rocks. Its extraordinary color range — the widest of any gemstone — comes from trace elements of iron, manganese, lithium, and other minerals. Multi-colored Tourmaline forms when the chemical composition of the surrounding fluid changes during crystal growth, creating distinct color zones within a single crystal. The most famous variety is Watermelon Tourmaline, with its pink center and green rim. Major sources include Brazil, Afghanistan, and Africa.
