Shiva Lingam stones are composed of cryptocrystalline quartz (chalcedony) with iron oxide inclusions that create their distinctive banding. They are collected from the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh, India — one of the seven sacred rivers of Hinduism — and are considered sacred to Shiva. The tumbled versions are shaped and polished from Narmada River stone, preserving the sacred origin while creating a more portable form.
